Ways To Make Your Bedroom Appear Put Together

Spruce up your bedroom to make a big impact on your attitude. A thrown together look can cause inner chaos, where well thought out decor can be an investment in tranquility and help you wind down at the end of the day. As the place where we spend each morning and night, how your bedroom looks and feels deserves a little attention. And if your home is on the market, a cluttered bedroom can turn off buyers.

Make Your Bed

This may seem a little motherly, but it is not just about pulling the sheets up and spreading out the blankets. Use different textures and fabrics with several layers to cozy up in. Add decorative pillows and shams, a throw blanket, or complete the look with different types of quilts or coverlets. Be sure to use fluffy inserts for your pillows. All of these add to a sophisticated bed that anyone would want to climb into.

Mix and Match

I’ve walked into bedrooms where the curtains match the bedding, the rug, and the chair. It’s a little blinding. Don’t be afraid to mix different styles, fabrics, and heirloom items. No matchy matchy here. Sometimes picking pieces from different stores can be overwhelming. It’s okay to add one thing at a time in order to find that perfect piece. Take pictures or even bring items in the store to make sure things coordinate without matching.

Whisk Away Clutter

Bills, homework, and to do lists shouldn’t have a place in the bedroom. It can add to your stress at night, when it is supposed to be relaxing in there. However, if you’re like me and occasionally work at night, it’s nice to have someplace to store papers you are working on. Designate a decorative box or drawer in your nightstand to store some of those things away when you’re ready to relax. Decorate your nightstand with a pretty vase, a sophisticated lamp, or a jewelry tray. If my nightstand is decorated, I find that it does not collect clutter nearly as easily.

Use Permanent Furniture

A bed without a headboard, or a cardboard box turned nightstand tends to lend to a feeling of being temporary instead of homey. On a budget? Shiplap, fence posts, vintage doors, and decorative room dividers can all become trendy headboards. Vintage nightstands at estate or yard sales can make for a fabulous find. Many people have chairs or workout equipment in their bedrooms. Just make sure they’re not doubling as your closet!

Art Gallery

A few well-placed art pieces can add a finishing touch to your bedroom. Metal medallions, wood signs, or a few favorite framed photos can have special place over your nightstand or bed. And don’t be afraid to hunt for originals. Etsy has some wonderful artists that can create one-of-a-kind pieces that would stand out in any space.

Window Treatments

Curtain panels, shades, or shutters can add ambiance to the room, softening it up with filtered light. Window treatments also add another element of texture. Window treatments do not have to be expensive. I found the drapes for my last house in a re-sale shop!
