Spring Cleaning - The Dirtiest Places In Your Home

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit it. My household can be a little crazy. With four kiddos in tow and busy jobs, cleaning our house is the last thing on our minds. Every spring I try to go through and scour, scrub, and shine all of the little hidden corners, underneath appliances, and on top of cabinets. But there are a few places that I don’t usually give a second thought. After really assessing our home, here are a few of the dirtiest places I found that are easy to overlook.

Coffee Pot

Residue and hard water deposits can build up in the water reservoir. Use a cleaning brush dipped in vinegar to clean the reservoir. Clean other removable parts in warm, soapy water.

Your Desk

Your keyboard, computer screen, and mouse pad are all areas that get neglected when it comes to disinfecting. These areas get germy and need to be wiped down weekly. Sterilizing wipes can easily be used to clean each of these surfaces.

Bathroom Sink and Faucets

Wipe down and soak the end of the faucet in vinegar for fifteen minutes. Use a toothbrush to scrub around the base. Also, most sinks have a secondary drain closest to the edge of the counter. Get inside there with a toothbrush; it’s easy to miss!

Refrigerator Handles

No matter how many times I wipe these down, my kids’ grimy hands can dirty up refrigerator and microwave handles faster than you can turn around. A microfiber cloth with stainless steel cleaner makes it easy to clean them up.

Bathroom Walls

With three boys in our house, let’s face it. The bathroom can get pretty grimy. But the walls behind the toilet are often missed. Spray enzyme cleaner, let it sit for several minutes then wipe down with a slightly wet towel.

Vent Hood Or Ledge Above Stovetop

I often forget about the ledge above our stovetop. There was a good layer of dust last time I cleaned up there. A duster on a stick should do the trick to keep this area (and your food) dust free.
